Endless Involving of Snapchat

If many don’t know what Snapchat is. It’s a phone app that allows users to send photos and videos to friends. While adding 10sec stories that are available to be viewed for 24hrs, then disappears for ever. Snapchat has come long ways since their day of creation.

Snapchat started all the way back in April 2011, well the idea anyways. It wasn’t until July of 2011 when Snapchat finally launched, though it was originally called Picaboo. Though they changed their name to Snapchat, mainly because of a photo book company name “Picaboo” copyrighted them. I’ll be honest it was for the best, I couldn’t picture Snapchat being called Pica boo.  Not long the popularity of Snapchat rose, same with its new features and competitions.

I still remember when I have introduced to Snapchat back in 2013 actually. I thought it was the weirdest and coolest thing ever. Well so did everyone else. I remember everyone would pretty much document their daily lives. From waking up, eating their cereal, being on the bus (I was till in High School in 2013) and so on. I won’t lie it got pretty annoying after a while.

Let’s not forget those evil friends who would re-play your snapchat and screenshot it. Of course, after time, Snapchat needed to step up their game. Since Snapchat rejected Facebook offer to buy them out, they have been at an ever ending war of improving their features.

With that Snapchat added many features such as text chat, video calling, "Live" (following live events), Snapcash (who really used that?), QR scan code, no more "holding" down to watch stories, Selfie Filters, video filters such as fast-forward, slow-mo and rewind, Geo-filters, adding bitmojis, Memories, Spectacles, and so on.

Though one of the craziest things that have come from Snapchat is that users can actually become "Snapchat Famous" and make money off of Snapchat. Don't believe me? Watch the video below. Also with the help of Snapchat, we can follow our favorite Celebrities on their day to day life. That's if they are involved in Snapchat.

Even with the competition of Facebook trying to copy Snapchat ideas by bringing in Instagram stories, Messager stories, and their recent new addition Facebook stories. Though even with Facebook competition against Snapchat. Snapchat still is playing it strong.

Snapchat has become a very popular and daily use app. From not only promoting our own lives, but to seeing our friends lives, recent new coverage, articles, live events such as Superbowl and Olympics, and so on. Snapchat has develop to the multi-fucntional app that helps you connects to others.

1. Do you use Snapchat?
2. Do you believe Snapchat will continue to grow or will it slowly die away?

  1. I use Snapchat, and it's definitely one of my favorite apps aside from Twitter and Instagram. I don't Snapchat slowing down anytime soon...with all these new "live stories" coming out like Instagram and Facebook, I think people are realizing why they prefer Snapchat so much more. For most people, Snapchat is a small community made of people you know, and feel comfortable sharing photos and videos using cool and fun filters. Unlike Instagram which reaches a broader audience.

I think Snapchat will continue to grow, especially in the direction of advertising. We already see it with the Live Stories that have been utilized for the New York Fashion Week for example, or the Snapchat Discover Story that a lot of magazines like Cosmopolitan use to advertise a column.
